The Breakfast She Stopped Skipping, And What She Eats Instead
Coffee standing at the counter had been breakfast for eleven years. Replacing it took about four minutes of prep.
For eleven years, Rosa's breakfast was coffee, standing up, usually while looking for her keys. By ten thirty she would be short-tempered and reaching for whatever was in the break room.
She did not fix this with a diet. She fixed it by deciding that breakfast had to be something she could assemble in four minutes without thinking, because at six forty in the morning she is not a person who makes decisions.
So she assembles it the night before. That is the entire method.
What she puts together the night before
- Oats and milk in a jar, left in the fridge overnight.
- Whatever fruit is already in the house, cut and on top.
- A spoon of peanut butter, mostly so it tastes like something.
- The jar on the middle shelf, at eye level, where she cannot miss it.
- Coffee still happens, just sitting down now.
The part that surprised her
The ten thirty crash is what went away first, and she noticed that before she noticed anything else.
Rosa says she is not interested in nutrition as a topic, only in not being irritable at work. The book below is the only one she kept.
The cookbook Rosa kept: simple, repeatable meals built around what is already in the kitchen.
